Retire-At-Home Addresses Growing Pressures on Hospitals and Long Term Care

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oakville and Burlington, April 09, 2009 – With the growing pressures on hospitals, long term care and health care system in general, the launch of the Burlington and Oakville offices of Retire-At-Home Services aiming to service Halton and Peel Region- brings quality and compassionate in-home care to local seniors and peace of mind for their families.

Our focus is to provide individuals with a "choice" to remain in their homes as long as they wish, irrespective of inevitabilities of age and health or the restraints and barriers in their life.   Home is the healthiest place for most Canadians, where one is able to maintain control over external and internal environments, preserve dignity and autonomy in a family centered setting. RAH acknowledges the meaningful support provided by the natural caregivers and therefore, will work in conjunction with them in order to enhance the process of care.

In the very challenging and changing environment of Healthcare in Canada we keep abreast and enhance awareness amongst our clients of the options available for healthy living. In line with our mandate we continue to learn about resources available in our community, challenges that are encountered by the care partners so we can maintain and optimize the well being of our clients.  By combining the resources and extending them to our clients, we ensure a synergetic outcome that will help our clients remain active and independent in our community

“The hospitals in Halton and Peel Region are seriously challenged by the increased demand for Alternative Level of Care beds. This has created an adverse chain of events with an impact on flow of the patients, budget, utilization of beds and care; resources available in the community have left our seniors and their loved ones with limited choices” says Ms. Paraschiv. “The restriction of health care resources should not minimize our ability to focus on individuals’ needs.”

Our wide range of services are versatile from 1-24hr/day of health and non-healthcare services ranging from personal care and specialized nursing care to housekeeping, home and yard maintenance; and are not limited to the completion of the tasks. We listen, respect, advocate, personalize; and pass resources and knowledge. Our plans focus on clients’ abilities and skills. We introduce the proposed caregiver to our client, seek feedback and adjust accordingly. We are providing Free- ongoing case management visits to ensure that any changes of clients needs are identified and plans of care are modified immediately. We work with our clients and their family members, who have access to a professional 24hr/day. Clients are in control of their care at all times.  In addition, we are planning to work closely with the hospitals in alleviating the pressure caused by the tremendous challenge that discharge planners and social workers face these days due to alternative level of beds crisis and limited resources. We also augment services that retirement and nursing homes offer by providing companionship and personal care based on the need.
